Free Christian Poetry Contest: Best Faith Poems, Guidelines And Contest Prizes

The internet can be a double-edged sword for aspiring poets. There are several poetry contests available promising recognition and cash prizes, but many times companies behind these contests will deny prizes, leaving those who entered frustrated and angry. However, there is one large and reputable organization authors can feel good about. Each year, Utmost Christian Writers Foundation, a non-profit group based in Canada, sponsors two Christian poetry contests: the Novice Christian Poetry Contest and the Canadian Christian Poetry Contest.

The Novice Christian Poetry Contest is an annual Christian poetry contest available to all Christian believers. Guidelines are simple: poets must be unpublished, and up to 10 works may be submitted. Each poem can be free verse or rhyming; there is a 60 line maximum. Most important, each poem entered must not have been previously published or the winner of a previous contest. Unfortunately, this is not a free contest entry and participants must include $10 with each poem that is submitted. Writers can rest assured that UCFW will pay out all Christian poetry contest prizes, and winners are broadcast publicly on their website.

Poems submitted by the deadline of August 31, 2007 will be judged by a committee supervised by UCFW, and authors of the best poems receive large cash prizes. First place will be awarded $500, second gets $300, and third still takes a respectable $100. Fifteen honorable mentions will award $50 each, and additional Christian poetry contest prizes are awarded as well: Best Rhyming Poem wins a cool $250 and Best Traditional Rhyming Poem is awarded $100. All payout is in U.S. currency and winners are notified October 6, 2007.

In an effort to boost the presence of Canadian Christian poets in the media, the Utmost Christian Writers Foundation offers The Canadian Christian Poetry Contest. Contest prizes are awarded quarterly, and in Canadian currency. First place receives C$250 quarterly, and two honorable mentions are awarded C$25, as well as a poetry book by a published Canadian author. Guidelines vary slightly from the Novice Christian Poetry Contest, most notably in the exclusion of citizens of every other country except Canada. There are four deadlines spaced evenly throughout the next year, and each has a different theme. Guidelines also differ in that a maximum of two works can be submitted per participant for each theme. Also not a free contest entry, poets must supply $20 for one or both of their works to be entered into this Christian poetry contest.

The Utmost Christian Writers Foundation website features a writers gallery displaying several works from which to draw inspiration. Poets will be able to attain a better understanding of the guidelines of the Christian poetry contests by reading the work of past published winners.

Another unique feature of their website includes a free contest entry that can be a fun supplement to the previous contests. Poets do not submit their own work, but rather, actually judge three works given on the site. The greatest explanation of the given judgment for the best poems wins a poetry book.

One of the largest sponsors of Christian poetry contests, Utmost Christian Writers continues to boost poets by rewarding cash payouts for the best poems. Their annual Christian poetry contest is an excellent way for budding poets to be recognized.
